SCL Trainee Wins Pupin Prize
SCL trainee Trivko Kukolj has been awarded the Pupin prize of first degree for his
paper
Spontaneous isotropy breaking for vortices in nonlinear left-handed metamaterials
Spontaneous isotropy breaking for vortices in nonlinear left-handed metamaterials
written under supervision of Mihailo Cubrović from SCL. The main finding of the paper is that vortices in negative metamaterials have only a discrete, polygonal symmetry, which happens as a dynamical phase transition of Landau-Ginzburg type and gives rise to interesting collective phenomena. The Pupin prize is awarded once in three years for excellent master, diploma and other papers written by undergraduate students in Serbia.
Trivko is now fourth-year student of physics at University of Novi Sad, and has been collaborating with Mihailo since summer 2018, being a regular visitor to the Institute of Physics.
