SCL Online Seminar by Marija Janković
You are cordially invited to the SCL online seminar of the Center for the Study of Complex Systems, which will be held on Thursday, 15 July 2021 at 14:00 on Zoom. The talk entitled
Inner regions of protoplanetary discs and formation of super-Earths
will be given by Dr. Marija Janković (Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, UK). Abstract of the talk:
Thousands of new planets have been discovered outside of the Solar system in the past decade. Among the planets discovered so far, the most prevalent are the close-in super-Earths. These are planets with size between that of the Earth and Neptune, and orbits smaller than Mercury's. It is not well understood if and how the super-Earths could form as close to their host stars as they are observed to be today. All planets are believed to have formed in protoplanetary discs, discs of gas and dust that surround young stars. In this talk we will discuss numerical models of the innermost regions of protoplanetary discs, and whether these regions provide conditions required for the formation of the super-Earths.
