SCL’s researcher Igor Franović and his collaborators have published two papers that have been featured in Chaos. A review on adaptivity in coupled dynamical systems has been selected as a focus article with an accompanying Scilight promotion. Igor and his colleagues have highlighted multiple facets of adaptation in interdisciplinary research, outlining a common mathematical framework and formulating open problems to shape the future research. In a research article on formation of avalanche patterns, selected as an Editor’s pick, Igor and his collaborators have shown that cascading activity typical for neuronal systems may emerge in a critical transition only due to interaction of local canard dynamics and nonlocality of interactions, and may even coexist with robust oscillation rhythms.
