SCL Colloquium by Nenad Vukmirovic
SCL's newest member, Prof. Nenad Vukmirovic, gave a talk at the IPB Colloqium on "Electronic structure and transport through semiconductor materials". The new member of the Scientific Computing Laboratory, and of the Institute of Physics Belgrade, was introduced to the full faculty by Prof. Aleksandar Belic, director of IPB.
The colloqium gave an overview of theoretical methods used for calculating electronic structure and transport through seminconductors and nanostructures. The various methods were illustrated via their applications to specific materials of interest in realistic electronic and optoelectronic devices. The talk presented the results of numerical simulations of optoelectronic devices based on quantum dots (expected to have superior characteristics as compared to similar devices based on quantum wells). The remainder of the talk focused on the first atomistic simulations of electron transport through amorphous organic polymers.
