Antun Balaž Award at Superfluctuations

The international Superfluctuations conference has established the Antun Balaž Award in memory of Antun Balaž, the long-standing head of SCL. The award will become a traditional distinction presented at future editions of the Superfluctuations conference.

Antun was closely involved with the Superfluctuations conference and contributed to its previous editions. Following his passing last year, the organizers established the award bearing his name in cooperation with his family and SCL, as a lasting tribute to his scientific work and his contribution to the international physics community.

The inaugural Antun Balaž Award was presented during Superfluctuations 2026, held in San Benedetto del Tronto, Italy. The first recipients were Giovanni Midei, a young researcher at CNR in Trento, and Giulia De Rosi from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona.

The inaugural award ceremony was attended by Dr Ana-Marija Balaž, Antun’s sister, and Dr Ana Hudomal, representing SCL.

By establishing the Antun Balaž Award as a recurring distinction of the Superfluctuations conference, the organizers have created a lasting tribute to Antun and his scientific legacy, ensuring that his name and contribution to the community will continue to be remembered at future editions of the conference.
