Grid Computing Hands On Training for Users
As a part of EGEE-III NA3 activities, a one-day user-oriented hands-on training event was organized by SCL at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad on April 25, 2009. All participants were first-time users of Grid resources, without their own Grid certificates. For this reason, a pool of temporary Unix accounts at AEGIS01-PHY-SCL UI machine was created, with a set of short-term SEE-GRID Demo CA certificates pre-loaded on UI and registered at AEGIS VOMS database. During the training AEGIS VO resources were used by the participants.
The first set of training lectures and hands-ons was dedicated to the overview of usage of Linux command line interface. Setup of a Unix user account for Grid usage was demonstrated, together with proxy/myproxy certificate creation and WMS proxy delegation. Next set of lectures covered a typical usage of Grid information services and Grid data services from user command line interface. Afternoon sessions covered examples of job description, submission and output retrieval. These lectures fully covered all types of jobs: simple, advanced, jobs with large input/output files, collections of jobs, parametric jobs, DAG jobs and MPI jobs. All JDL examples used during the training are available on the local training wiki page.
